To WAS: Zdeno Chara, Marco Sturm, Andrew Ference and Chuck Kobasew
To BOS: Alexander Semin, Tom Poti, Eric Fehr, WAS 1 - 2008
Wow. Well, I said I wouldn't be dealing Semin unless I got a stud blueliner back, and here we are. Those who know me know it's rare I trade established young players or first round picks, and I've done both in this deal.
The reason?
I get a Norris-caliber blueliner, a very solid second line LW, and a good veteran 4/5 D man, all of whom are locked up for 3-4 years. I also add a good young forward in Kobasew who I see as being in the same ball park as Fehr.
I lose a lot though, especially a rare young talent in Semin. No one knows where he's headed but scoring 38-35=73 on the second line as a 23 year old suggests he could be great. Poti is a great PP QB, but someone I was willing to move and the 1st rounder hurts, but I've added a couple 2008 1sts already, so that made it easier.
Should be an interesting year though, my roster is coming into shape to be sure...
